On November 21 Madelyn turned 6 months and here it is now December 1 and I'm finally posting her update. Perhaps it was that I am in denial that our baby can already be 6 months along. When I was pregnant I just wishes to get to be six months pregnant as that was the time Noah had arrived (actually even a bit earlier). I remember reaching those milestones of 25 and 26 weeks and feeling so grateful and happy to have passed those important dates.
Madelyn is here and healthy and happy. What more could I ask? She continues to be the happiest baby and her weeks leading up to her 6 month were busy to say the least. Maybe that's another reason why the year is passing oh so quickly.
Here are some highlights about what Madelyn Faith is up to in her 6th month.
She was able to celebrate her first Halloween going as one of my favorite childhood cartoon stars... rainbow bright. She wasn't much for the candy but she liked the excitement and fun that goes along with Halloween.
Another first is that she got to spend some time in her highchair. Its been very impressive to us that her sitting up skills have gotten so good. In fact as I type this, she has mastered sitting up.
We introduced her to the high chair as we decided in her sixth month it was time to start food. Here's a video of her trying sweet potatoes... her first food other than milk.
Madelyn continues to laugh and remain one of the happiest babies and she seems to really love her family because she lights up when she sees her brothers and sister.

Mom, Isabelle and Maddie also enjoy spending time together. Here we are waiting for the brothers to finish at gymnastics. Being a mom to two girls is so much fun. Finally, someone to play girl activities.
This month we also introduced Madelyn to food. She tried sweet potatoes and thought it was just "okay" but since then she has really taken to it. So far she likes oatmeal, sweet potatoes, green beans and carrots. She's not a fan of bananas and I was surprised, thinking they'd be sweet... turns out they aren't very good, they are sour. I know, I tried them!
Perhaps the most memorable event of Madelyn's sixth month is the terrible scare she gave us on the morning of November 8th, when she was up for her normal 2 am feeding. After burping her on my shoulder I moved her to the cradle position to put her back into bed when I realized she wasn't breathing. It was the scariest moment ever and I blogged about it
here. After another scary incident on Thursday of that same week we decided to take her to the hospital.
Thankfully they took our concerns about what happened very seriously and decided she needed to be admitted.
Madelyn was an amazing trooper as they poked and prodded her for test after test. The nurses that had to put in her iv were shocked when Madelyn not only didn't cry when they put the needle in but she also smiled at them. They decided she too was the best baby and brought her a singing airplane which she loved.
Spending 24 hours in the hospital reminds me continuously to give thanks for healthy kids. So many moments of being there reminded me about our time with Noah but also our time when Isabelle was 10 months old and so sick, that she was admitted to the hospital too.
After testing Madelyn for apnea, her blood counts, a CT scan, and her heart, they determined she has Gerd, a type of reflux. We were so thankful it was nothing more serious and grateful that with some medicine and simple things (like having her sleep at an incline) we should God willing never have another scare like that.
Some of Madelyn's favorite things to do this month are...
- Sit up- she loves to be able to look around and see more.
- Eating- she's a fan of eating food like what we eat.
- She's started to wave goodbye or hi when we wave to her
- She's also started to shake her head no. She doesn't know yet what no means, but she likes its funny to turn her head from side to side and when we say, "Are you saying no?", she giggles
- Make funny faces! She still doesn't have any teeth but they must definitely be moving around in there under her gums, as she is constantly drooling and chewing on her fingers and toys. She also makes funny faces where she brings her lower lip up over her top. Here I'll show you for yourself...
Isn't that a funny face? It totally reminds me of the Pout Pout Fish... although Madelyn isn't pouting.
Oh yes, its hard for me to believe that Madelyn is 6 months. It has been such a glorious 6 months and I tell myself to soak up every minute, because I'm blinking and its going by way too quickly. So much so that yesterday I changed out her 6 and 9 months clothes and pulled out the 12 month clothes as they seem to fit the best.
Madelyn's growing in record speed, even according to her doctor. At her 6 month check up she was 28 inches long which puts her in the 99th percentile. Seriously, since birth she has been growing at the rate of one inch per month. She weighs 19.6 pounds and is in the 93%. I have a feeling, just like the other kids, I'm going to be the shortest of everyone.
In realizing just how fast it's going, and that she has so many clothes to wear before they are too small. So stay tuned for part two of her six month post. Yesterday she and I had her own fashion photo show. I'll share some of those pictures soon.
Madelyn, we love you so much and are so lucky to be your parents. Your brothers and sister love you to pieces. Happy half birthday baby. You are one of our greatest blessings.
