In the last few days Michael has found it intriguing, interesting, funny, or amusing to ask me over and over and over, "Mommy, what are you doing?" Yesterday I was putting in a load of wash when he asked, "Mommy, what are you doing?" Laundry, honey. Two minutes later, "Mommy, what are you doing?" Walking to the kitchen honey. Twenty seconds later, "Mommy, what are you doing?" I don't know Michael, what are YOU doing?
I'm guessing you get my point. The question, "Mommy, what are you doing?" has become so frequent, it has even entered into my dreams. Last night, I had a dream that I was back in high school and for some reason everyone was harassing me by asking me over and over, "What are you doing?"
Last week, when we were on one of our multiple visits to the pediatricians office, I asked her if it was normal for kids this age, especially Michael's age, to ask the same question over and over. I guess it must have been a silly question to ask because she just looked at me for a moment to see if I was serious, giggled and then said, most definitely. Good to know.
So this afternoon , when we were getting out of the pool to change clothes, Michael began to speak and by the tone in his voice I could tell he was just about to ask me a question, the question. He said Mommy (pause), and as I was just about to open my mouth to say, Michael I'm helping you get dressed, he softly said, "I love you."
In his little, high-pitched, mousy voice, I could tell instantly that he meant every word he was saying. I've learned these little boys can catch you off guard. Just when you think they've shown you every bit of their preciousness, they go and do something that makes you fall in love with them all over again.
I'm sure as I finish writing this and go out to check on them watching some Scooby Doo, Michael's first words out of his mouth will be, "Mommy, what are you doing?" I've found a new answer to the never ending question.
Michael, I'm loving you, that's what I'm doing.

A birthday wish come true!
Yesterday I was 29 and today I'm 30. I say honestly that I haven't been that excited to turn 30, but now that it is here and I know what my life as a 30-year-old is like, I would have welcomed it many years ago.
As you know or can imagine, my birthday presents came early this year. They arrived on May 8 when we brought home our little guys. I woke up this morning to the serenading songs of three boys singing me a happy birthday tune. The little ones then proceeded to curl up in bed next to me (one on each side) and give me a big birthday hug and kiss. Daddy, got to take Jack out to go potty while Gabriel, Michael and I snuggled.
As far as a 30th birthdays go, I have to say this one could probably go down on record for being the most low-key, non-eventful day, however to me it was perfect. Jarrett had to go biking this morning as he prepares for his big 100+ mile adventure next weekend in Lake Tahoe so the boys and I spent the morning cleaning house. Yes, you read that correctly, we cleaned house. The boys thought we were actually fixing the house so they pretended to be like Handy Manny (this show on Disney where a handyman named Manny talks to his tools and fixes things for others). The boys were a great help dusting, vacuuming and sweeping the floors. I promise I didn't make them work too hard, but hey, if they are excited about helping and it seems fun to them to suck up dust bunnies, I'm not going to hinder that excitement.
After a few hours of "fixing the house" we played school where Gabriel learned how to write and recognize the letters X and Y and Michael practiced his colors. Being a new mom, I'm not exactly sure where the boys should be academically as far as knowing certain things but I can share that I do think it is a pretty new activity for them to actually have someone sit down with them and teach them certain things. They both seem to like it and they say, "Mom, you are the teacher right?"
After lunch Daddy graciously took the boys on an adventure to the car wash or what they like to call the cave. This gave me about 45 minutes to try and write some thank yous that I've been trying to get out for days. It has been stressing me that my to do list has been growing faster than I can cross items off, so this break was welcome and helped me to feel a little bit better about getting my organized life back.
This afternoon Jarrett had said we could do something just us 4 (or 5 counting Jack) as a family and when it came down to it, we did. We actually just stayed home and enjoyed what our new normal life is. We colored, enjoyed lunch and spent time talking. And tonight we had dinner, read some books to the boys and let them watch a few minutes of The Lion King before putting them to sleep.
And now, for the first time in 3 plus weeks, Jarrett and I are going to have a Date Night in our living room. This will be the first time since the boys arrived that we are going to sit down, drink a glass of wine and watch a movie, (and not a kids movie) together.
As I said before, and now you can probably agree, this 30th birthday could probably go down as one of the most low-key birthdays ever, however to me it was just perfect!
When I was helping Gabriel and Michael brush their teeth tonight I said, Boys, do you know what Mommy wished for for her birthday present?" Michael screamed "Spiderman" and Gabriel just looked at me with his beautiful blue-green eyes. I said, Mommy wished for you guys and then they grinned from ear to ear. I don't know if they fully understand yet how much this birthday means to me, but it will be a story I will share with them many more times in the coming days, months, and years ahead.
Thank you God for bringing me my biggest and best birthday wish!

A big Ouwie...
Today I learned that Mothers really do feel their child's pain. This morning the boys got to spend some quality time alone with their Daddy. We think it is important for them to have quality time with each of us alone so that they can grow to connect and love each of us equally (and secretly I want to share the "potty" time calls with Daddy too!)
The boys had an adventurous morning I understand. They got up, ate Cheerios, got dressed, brushed their teeth and headed to the park. When I got home they had just finished up eating an early lunch so they could retire to their room for nap time. Dad did a great job and it seemed the plan was going just as we had hoped until Michael announced as I walked through the door...
"Mommy I got a big ouwie and it hurts really bad." As he bent in a way that only Mr. Gadget and his go-go-gadget arms and legs can, he maneuvered his body around to show me a big swollen red spot right at the top of his little thigh. Yes it did look like a big ouwie! Not sure exactly what I was looking at my first response was, "Should Mommy call the doctor?" and Michael, who has not been to excited to visit the doctor most recently, immediately replied, "Oh yes Mommy, it really hurts"
So our quiet afternoon of napping instead turned in to a trip to the lovely Dr.'s office where they explained to me he has caught some sort of bacteria and the only way to relieve the puffiness and hurt was to "slice it open and drain the infection." And to end the conversation the doctor said, "He will not like me at the end of this visit". This is a note to all future moms, when you hear those words out of your pediatrician's mouth, BEWARE! That means it is going to hurt your little one, ALOT.
As she explained to me what they were going to have to do, she said, and mom, don't worry, he'll get over it right away but it might take you a little while. She said, we'll hold him down but we need you at his head to talk to him and distract him and we need you to stay strong okay? Again future mom's, CAUTION, this is your warning.
Okay, so I gathered my courage and said to myself, I can do this. I told Gabriel he needed to be really good and sit on the bench (in the same room), read a book and not to watch. The procedure began and as soon as they touched the spot Michael let out a painful scream. I tried to distract him with talk about trucks, frogs, Batman, Spiderman, X-man. I was even making up names of superheros, but nothing seemed to work. He continued screaming, crying and reaching out for me to rescue him from these terrible doctors that seemed to be torturing him. A few minutes into the procedure Michael started to get a nose-bleed, which I now understand can be caused by a significant amount of pain in little ones. So, as I'm trying to calm him down, hold pressure on his nose and stop blood from going everywhere, which at this point is all over my arms and t-shirt, my heart is absolutely splitting into pieces and I'm trying to fight back tears. Gabriel, the little angel that he can be, climbed up onto the doctor's counter to get a whole box of Kleenex and brought them to me. He said, "Here Mom, please help Michael." Yes, still fighting back the tears.
After what seemed to be a half hour but was actually only about 5 minutes, the nurses released some of the pressure they had on his back and legs and at last the worst was over. We get to go back tomorrow for more "draining of the infection" fun that we had today, but at least the incisions are over and I pray the majority of the pain.
When Jarrett was sick and going through Chemotherapy I remember praying that I could take away some of his pain and that I'd do anything to switch places with him. As my best friend in life, I knew the love I have for him would go to the end of the earth and back. I remember thinking that I didn't know if I could love anyone as much as I love him. I now know that I can and I do.
I'd do anything and everything if I could make sure these little boys never have to feel pain or any more big ouwie's for the rest of their lives or as Gabriel would say, Mom, you mean forever, forever, forever right?"

The Art of Sharing
Gabriel and Michael seem to pretty much have down the act of sharing. It is pretty rare when I have to break up an argument because one of them has something the other one wants and they are unable to resolve the discussion between themselves. Today seems to be a day when we are sharing many things.
This morning started off with the boys wanting to share each other's toothbrush. The request was made to share mommy's toothbrush first but I said that is one of the things Mommy doesn't have to share with anyone. So, after that request was denied, they moved on to requesting to use Michael's Cookie Monster toothbrush. I decided it wasn't worth the lengthy explanation of why we don't share each other's toothbrushes, I'll save that discussion for tomorrow.
Since the boys have moved in, I've tried to select their daily outfits for them and have them laying on their bed as they finish breakfast and after brushing their teeth. Today, I decided it might be a good idea to allow Gabriel some autonomy in picking his own outfit. As I watched him pick out his outfit, I decided again, to just let him pick what he wanted and to keep my comments to myself. Here is a little description of what Gabriel looks like today...
The oldest and most faded Guess jean shorts that must have been a hand-me-down or a goodwill pick up from before he came to us. The elastic on the jean shorts is shot, so they seem to hang down just enough to show a glimpse of his sporting "tunnies" aka underwear. For a tastefully classic look he decided to select Michael's red Lighting McQueen Cars shirt that is a size 2T and obviously 2 sizes too small. Think of an 80's mid-drift t-shirt. And then to seal the classic look he was going for, he selected one sock that is a mid-calf length and the other that is a footie and doesn't show above his shoes. To top it off he decided he didn't need/want to comb his hair and the slept-on spiked look in the very back was good enough for today. Very cute!
In the spirit of sharing, I fear Michael and Gabriel may have also decided to share their stuff with Mommy. Several people have told me that little people are germ magnetics. I'm not sure if it just being a little worn down or the fact that I just picked up something, but Mommy spent last night and this morning feeling really under the weather. Since Mommy was up all night admiring the cracks and crevices of her bathroom wall, ceiling and floor, Daddy volunteered to share some of the morning responsibilities with Mom, actually he took on all of them. Thanks Daddy! What was so cute is that the boys normally come straight to my side of the bed in the morning to wake me up and tell me they have to go potty, but this morning Daddy took them and explained that they needed to be quiet because Mommy isn't feeling very good. Laying there feeling nauseous, I listened as they apologized to their Daddy for Mommy being sick. "I'm sorry Daddy that Mommy is sick," said Gabriel and then Michael chimed in, "Mommy sick Daddy right? I sorry". Daddy explained that is wasn't their fault but for some reason they seemed to think it was, even though they've been healthy since day one. When I finally got myself out of bed and slowly moved to the couch to rest my eyes, both boys came up to me at different times and gently kissed my cheek. Then they said, "Mommy I so sorry you sick" How precious is that?
I guess we'll have to see how much sharing mommy does in the next few days. I've tried to be good at sharing my things with those I love, but I sure hope I don't share this.
Until next time,
Angie

An Adoption Celebration!!!!!
I've always been thankful for great friends and family. Friends, just like family, are there for you when your down and needing a pick-me-up, they are there for you in sad times and always in happy times. Today, we were celebrating one of those happy times and I, scratch that, WE couldn't be more thankful for our wonderful friends and family.
Today we were honored at what has to be the best, most amazing, adoption celebration/shower, that has ever taken place. My wonderful friends, Lara, Jennifer and Janelle planned and hosted the nicest, warmest and most loving celebration I've ever attended. They went above and beyond to have everything perfect, from yummy food to balloons, a sandbox and an array of boys toys for them to play with. It was a family event so it was great to see all of our family and friends come with their families, even big boys (Dads) were invited!
Today was a very special day as we've long to introduce our little ones to the special people in our lives and all of our friends couldn't have been more open and loving in meeting them. Oh and let me also say, our family and friends have been SO generous!!!! It honestly was so great just to have a party to welcome them, but we were so wonderfully overwhelmed with the gifts and it wasn't just Jarrett and I. The boys are included as well!!!! In all honesty, prior to coming to our home, I believe the boy's idea of getting a present was getting a tiny, trinky toy that are found in fast food meals. Today was probably one of the most magical days in the boys' lives. Thank you to ALL of you!
As we opened the presents, the boys were so excited in amazement at everything they were given. Wow we can't say thank you enough. We think we will be set for the next 12-14 years of their lives. :-) As we drove home today, you would have thought the boys had just experience Christmas morning about 20 times over. They will never forget this day.
So to our wonderful friends and family who helped to make this such a special day, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! And to Jennifer, Lara and Janelle, my heart, our hearts are overflowing with appreciation. I hope you know how much you've just given us!
Love,
Angie
PS: Oh and Lara, I'm sorry I think I owe you a couple cups of sand. Michael must have thought the sand from the sandbox was a gift. He filled his brand new shirt pockets with sand. As I put him down for a nap this afternoon he decided it would be good to keep his new sand in his bed.
We'll remember this day and the fun we had every night for a very long time!

Everyday they amaze me...
Today has been a great day. Nothing too exciting or spectacular has happened, but it has been a very good day. This morning we got up early, 5:15 a.m. and I decided to spend some quality time snuggling with Gabriel since Michael was still asleep. I've been secretly second-guessing myself, maybe that is just something moms do, but I find myself running through the days events over and over in my mind. I always want to make sure I'm giving them equal attention, reassurance and praise. I feel like we are doing a good job with that but sometimes I wonder if I need to do it more. Since Michael is just 3 and needs more "mommy help" I find myself attending to his needs regularly. Given that Gabriel is 4 1/2, I give him more independence and watch in amazement as he does things on his own. But lately, in the evenings, I find myself wondering if I could do more to make Gabriel know I love him equally as much as his younger brother. And so, it was for that reason that I decided to spend some quality Gabriel/Mom time this morning.
The boys seem to like it when I rub their backs right before nap time. I remember my mom always doing that for me before I would go to sleep, and it is a memory I cherish now as an adult. I now feel like it is my turn to help create lasting memories these boys can cherish when they become adults. Gabriel and Michael are still at that age where they like to cuddle and it is apparent they want to always be close to both Jarrett and I. This morning, as I snuggled with Gabriel and rubbed his back, I could almost feel him letting down his guard. Gabriel is a very mature 4 1/2 year old, he has had to step up and be his little brother's protector for a long time. This morning when I was rubbing his back, it was one of the first times I think Gabriel realized that he no longer has to take on the burden of carrying for or watching out for someone else. Also, I think he realized he now gets to be the recipient of someone carrying for him too. Right before Michael woke up, Gabriel sighed, rolled over and said, "I love you so much Mommy." That was the start of our great day.
There were many other highlights today but I'll just conclude with another brief story about how our day ended. We sing a lot of songs these days, kids songs that is. A couple of those songs we sing are from the Lion King, a classic Disney movie. The boys haven't seen this movie but they love the song or the words, "I just can't wait to be king!" and "Kunamatada". We've been talking about it and thanks to my aunt Anita for letting us borrow her good old VHS tape we were able to enjoy a family movie night tonight. As we were watching the movie, it was clear the boys were attentively following along, and then out of the blue they would turn towards me, sitting the farthest away from the TV, and either move closer to me to make sure we were touching or they would come and give me a hug. I know they do these things with Jarrett too. At one point, it was Gabriel, Michael and me in a row and all of a sudden Michael grabbed my hand moved it over to be in between him and Gabriel and then the both of them held my hand. I guess the power of human touch is important for everyone, no matter how young or old.
It is so true, everyday these little boys amaze me. I can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring.
Good night,
Angie

That was the start of our great day.
Good night,
Angie

A day in Mommy's shoes
With two little boys in our house we have, in just a few short days, accumulated lots of boy toys. We have Spiderman(s), X-men, trucks, airplanes, Transformers, motorcycles, and boy books. With all of those fun boy toys around, you'd think there'd be at least one item which would be the stand out, the toy that they play with for hours. Unfortunately, those toys listed above only hold their attention for 20-30 minutes but there is one item which I've found can be entertainment for hours. Can you guess what that toy is?... MOMMY's shoes!
Isn't that cute? What is so precious is that they have so much fun walking around in and trying on all of my different pair of shoes. Then they pretend to walk like Mommy. I can't believe no one has told me I waddle like a duck.
I know this will probably be a picture they will come to regret posing for but I just couldn't resist. I hope it brings a smile to your face, it sure did ours.

Could it be possible?
Could it be possible that everything at our house is fun? Including time out? Yesterday, as I was preparing dinner, the boys were off playing with some of their toys. All of a sudden Gabriel said, "Mom, can I go to timeout?" I hadn't heard a loud noise (which I've learned usually means something breakable has fallen and been broken) and I didn't hear Michael screaming (which usually means Gabriel has or has taken something Michael wants) so I turned around with a curious look and watched as he trotted over to the timeout chair.
As I new parent, I'm not really sure what the correct protocol is in that scenario so I just went along with it. In normal time out rules, the boys have to sit on a chair for the number of minutes they are old (Gabirel 4 minutes, Michael 3 minutes). So for the pretend time out, or what I'm going to call Self-Selected Time Out, I just did the same. "Okay Gabriel, since you're in time out you sit on the chair until you hear the timer go off, and then I'll be over to talk to you." Okay, so I cheated and I only made him sit there for 3 minutes. Seriously, how could I make him sit there for the entire time if I don't even know what he did wrong? When the 3 minutes were up I walked over to him, squated down to his eye level and tried to maintain a straight face. I said "Gabriel, why did you put yourself in time out?" He responded, "Cause sometimes I don't listen to you and I know I should" (Yet another moment my heart melted). I said, thank you Gabriel for telling me why you are in timeout. Do you have anything else you want to say. He responded, "I'm sorry Mom, I love you" Then we wrapped up Self-Selected Time Out just like we do the unvoluntary ones, with hugs a kiss and a "Now let's go have fun!" Seriously, I'm still trying to figure that one out?
As of this afternoon we have officially been parenting Gabriel and Michael for a week. Thinking back on all that has happened there are so many highlights I can't even begin to explain. We are so thankful and feel like we are in getting into our groove. I tried to take in every moment this week and stash each memory in my mind forever. Perhaps the one piece of advice I have heard for many many years is to cherish the time because kids grow up so quickly. I remind myself of that each day... although we want them to grow into happy, loving and successful men, I'm going to enjoy these days, the days when they want lots of hugs and kisses, becuase someday, I'm guessing they won't want their old mom showing her affection towards them in the same way.
Until next time,
Angie

I stay with you forever forever forever!
Its 9:15 p.m. and the house has been quiet for the past hour and 20 minutes Jarrett and I are racing around trying to catch up on things. We share highlights from the day, talk about all that we have to do tomorrow and try to strategize how we can knock off some of our ever growing list of To Do's. It is strange though, all of our conversations seem to drift back to two little boys.
I've completely fallen in love with them, and to be honest we both have. I love the sound of their feet racing across the floor, or their high pitched laughs as we push them around the house in their pretend speed boats (aka Mom's clothes baskets) or even more, the yell from the other room, "Mommy I need help. or Mom can you tie my shoes?" I don't know how many times a day I hear the words Mom but I can tell you, it is so many that I'm starting to hear them call me when I know they are fast asleep. It is like when you hear a very catchy song on the radio or TV and you just can't get it out of you mind, that is what I have going on with the whole Mom/Mommy thing.
Although I spend every minute of their day with them, I have to admit I miss them at night when they are asleep. We sleep with our door wide open and I feel I always have one ear listening in case one of them needs something. Today, during nap time I was checking my email on the computer in the front of the house (their room is in the back side) when all of a sudden I heard a little noise. As I went to investigate I walked in to see that both of them were sleeping peacefully, so I just watched for a moment taking in the beauty of two wonderful little boys resting. It really is one of the simply joys of life. As I watched, all of a sudden I noticed Gabriel had the hick-ups. I guess I didn't know you can have the hick-ups and sleep right through them. I tried not to laugh out-loud but boy was it cute!
I would have to say that we are transitioning into our family roles very well. Although I know I have a ton more to learn, I have to stay I'm starting to feel like we are getting the hang of it. We have a pretty good routine down and the boys are definitely feeling at home. Although we tell the boys everyday we love them and are so happy they came to be with us, I think they still worry that this may not be their forever home. I can't imagine how confusing, scary and overwhelming it is to not know where you will live for the near future. Since Gabriel and Michael have come to live with us Gabriel has asked me everyday, "Mom, can I stay with you forever forever?" and at which I reply, "Yes Gabriel, we want you and Michael to stay with us forever forever forever!" I have a feeling this question may be asked many more days in the future and I cannot blame them for wanting the constant reassurance. For the past 3 and 4 years of their lives, nothing has been constant, so we will wholeheartedly do everything in my power to give them the stability, reassurance and security they are longing for. It just breaks my heart that a 3 and 4 year old has has to stress about this basic necessity.
Everyday I'm overwhelmed with how blessed we are. I suppose all parents feel this way about their children. I remember people saying how a mother's love for her child is one of the strongest bonds, and I now feel like I know what they mean. It sounds strange I know, I've only known my little angels for less than a week, but I can tell you, I'd go to the ends of the earth for two little boys named Gabriel and Michael.
Thank you God for bringing us together!

All in a tiny backpack
What does a 3 year old think he needs for school? Our wonderful friends Janelle and Jon brought us over a whole bunch of goodies to help us get started in making our boys feel at home. One of the great things they brought us was a tiny backpack filled with wooden blocks. Although the boys really like the blocks, Gabriel and Michael are infatuated with the backpack. They are constantly taking turns of who gets to wear it, and when they put it on, they tell me they are going to school. Today I watched as it was Michael's time to put on the backpack and "go to school" Did you know that for school a three year old needs the following items?... plastic onions (for the cheeseburgers), 96 colors (not in the box, individually dumped in the bag), two tubes of toothpaste (one Baby Einstein tube, one Thomas the Train tube), one Bakugon toothbrush and 4 crumpled up pieces of paper, and 7 little cars. I couldn't resist taking a picture of this one!
More later, nap time is over!

A Day of Firsts...
Today was a day of many first's, actually it has been a weekend of many firsts. There are firsts that I have dreamed of doing for many years, and when they happened this past weekend, they were even more enjoyable than what I had pictured in my mind.
There has been so much that has happened I'm not even sure where to start. As the boys say things or something happens that melts my heart all over again, I think to myself, I have to blog about that... then I'm called by one of the boys... "Mom, can I please have some milk?, "Mom, can I make you a cheeseburger? (we have a little play McDonald's kitchen they LOVE to play with and if it keeps me out of the real one for a while, I'll eat pretend plastic cheeseburgers all day)... oops sorry where was I?... oh and another favorite calling of the day... "Mom, I have to go potty! It is all wonderful, even the potty part.
Some of our first together include our first family meal. Let me tell you the boys are good eaters. Anything I put in front of them they eat, I even took a risk tonight and made baked cod thinking okay maybe this will be something they don't like. Nope. Michael, our 3 year old said, "Mommy I like more ish please" I am not complaining, I'm so thankful they are healthy and so happy. I don't care if our grocery bill will double. I just can't imagine how much they will eat when they are teenage-growing boys. :-)
Another first that we did together as a family was going to church. The boys have never been to church and being that we picked them up on Saturday afternoon, I think Jarrett and I were both a little nervous to take them to such a quiet and still place on Sunday morning. However, we shared with them before we went that Church is a place where we sit quietly and listen and sing songs when it is time. I brought back up supplies in case in my lovely ASU bag, (I haven't had time to get a cute Diaper (or Diaperless) bag. The boys don't care, as long as it has two books, a motorcycle and some Cheeriors in a baggie, they were set. Of course we got there 2 minutes before the service started so we had to sit in the middle of a row half way up the front (which made me more nervous). I remember praying to God as we walked in, please let this go well. Again, I should have just put my trust in the big man upstairs becuase I could not have asked for two more well-behaved little boys. Gabirel sang along when we sang songs and Michael looked around in amazement. They were all smilies. Now they keep asking me, "Mommy we go to church today?"
The list of firsts keeps going on and on for Jarrett and I, but today, when Michael did something, I realized that these last few days are not about how quickly Daddy and Mommy can adjust to their roles, but also how wonderful these two little boys are at adjusting to a loving family. Kids are truly amazing and today I witnessed that first hand. Jarrett and I made it a point on Thursday when we were able to get a copy of our first picture of the boys, to race right out and get duplicates made. I immediately put them into frames and scattered them around the house so that when the boys arrived, they knew that it just wasn't mommy and daddy's house they were walking into but it was OUR house. Gabirel noticed right away on Saturday but it wasn't until today when Michael saw the first picture of him and Gabriel in a frame. As I watched Michael hold the picture I could see his eyes light up and how much he cherished it. He gathered all of the frames around the house with their pictures in them and he held them tightly all afternoon. It was then that I realized that these boys have probably never had a home that they could have called their own, and within that home objects and pictures that show how much they are loved and cherished. I was finally able to get Michael to put down the pictures when it was time to have dinner and I have to say they are completely covered with little boy fingerprints. My inital reaction was to wipe it clean with some glass cleaner and then I thought no... those fingerprints are right where they belong. So when you come to our house next time, I'll proudly show you our framed pictures of our two little angels, in fact, I'll even let you see their beautiful fingerprints.
Until next time...
Angie
PS: I know many of you have asked for pictures and I am not trying to be the worst mom in the world, but I ask for your patience. We've been told we are not able to post pictures of the two little ones online until the process is completely underway. With the openness of the internet we want to make sure we protect these little boys, but I promise once I get the all clear to post, watch out. I've already filled up one memory card and the boys have told me, "No more cheeses mommy, maybe later" :-) Oh how I love their little voices.

Happy Mothers Day!
I must admit for the last few years as we celebrate Mother's Day with the mothers around us, I've longed to join that elite group. Today, I can finally say I'm one of them.
I thought I'd have more time to post but I just hear the sounds of little voices coming from their rooms.. :-) I guess that means my motherly duties must begin and that I'll share more of our wonderful day of family firsts later!
It has been an amazing 48 hours and we never imagined it would happen so fast but we couldn't be more thankful and blessed. These little boys are sweeter, kind-hearted and more loving than we could have dreamed of.
So to all of you mother's out there... Happy Mother's Day!

Oh Happy Day!!!
First of all we would like to thank everyone who has joined us in celebrating this news with us. Thank you for all of the phone calls, the emails and the posts on this blog! We will respond individually to each of you, please just give us a few days to figure out which way is forward.
Speaking of forward, things are moving foward very quickly. We were able to go and visit the boys, our sons this morning and what a day it has been! We were told yesterday we had to sleep on the information we were given and we could call anytime after 8:30 a.m. to share our final decision. I called our contact at 8:23 a.m. (we couldn't wait any longer) and when she answered she laughed and said... "I thought about just answering the phone by saying Hi Angie..." I guess she could tell yesterday what our answer to accepting the boys was going to be. After setting a time to meet them at 10 a.m. we raced off to Target (which we understand from our other adoption friends Dave and Tara that this store will become like a second home)to purchase car seats. That was an experience in itself, for a later post but I'll just skip to the exciting part.
We arrived a few minutes early to the foster family's home and as we walked to the front door the case worker greeted us outside. She said, "Rememeber yesterday when we said we'd introduce you to the boys as a friend of mine, well nevermind. The boys know what is going on and are very excited to meet you." She said we'll just let the boys take the lead and we'll follow.
As Jarrett and I walked in I think we'd both admit we were nervous, realizing how big of an event this is for us, but as soon as we walked through the door those nerves disappeared. Gabriel and Michael caming running to the door, Gabirel threw his arms around my legs and then said, "Are you guys going to be my new Mommy and Daddy?" When we answered yes we are, both boys started jumping up and down and screaming YEA YEA YEA YEA! How's that for a warm greeting?
As if that isn't icing on the cake already, the visit continued to go just as it started. They were proud to show us around the house and the back yard. A few minutes into the visit Gabriel said, "I want to go to your house" When we answered okay, you can come to our house in a couple of days, he responded so I want to go TODAY! Michael chimmed in and said, "Yes Today!" The case worker than said, okay maybe not today but how about tomorrow? Yes, that is right, I did say it correctly... TOMORROW!
The case worker then said if you want you can take them out for lunch, just you guys. We understood that this type of event usually happened on the second or even third visit, not within the first 20 minutes of meeting them. But, in the spirit of "going with the flow" we went out for our first family lunch to my favorite restaurant... McDonald's! (Okay, maybe not my favorite actually probably the opposite, but if they like it, it will become a favorite of mine too). The both both ate very well and were very well behaved with please and thank yous!
As we were driving back to the foster parents home Michael said something that we didn't quite catch, (we're learning a crash course in 3-year old talk) and then Gabriel helped translate it for us. He said, Michael doesn't want to go back to Sally (foster mom's name) house, he wants to go to our new house with you. Then Gabirel said, I want to go to. And at that moment our hearts melted for which much have been the 100th time in an hour and a half. We told them that we would come back and get them tomorrow and they can come and stay with us.
So, in a matter of 24 or less hours we will be bringing home our sons. What a great thing to be able to say. We have nothing and I mean nothing ready, the house is a mess and I feel like I'm completely unorganized (which for those of you who know me very well, you can probably understand how overwhelmed I'm feeling), however I'd/We'd take this feeling any day of the week if it means we can open our hearts and home to these boys.
Tonight we'll leave everything as it is an go enjoy our last night as a couple. We are going to a Diamondbacks game and just as Jarrett's mom said, "The boys won't care that everything isn't in its place or that their beds haven't arrived, they'll only care that you guys are there to love them." You know I think she is right... so off we go to enjoy our last night as a couple.
As one chapter in our lives end another one begins. Tomorrow is a new day, a day we've dreamed about and can't wait to begin. Please wish us luck and if you think of it, please say a prayer... we're going to need it. I think by now there should be some book out there that has perfected the role of parenthood... why can't I find it. I guess we'll have to rely upon you all for help.
And to all of the Mother's out there, including our own... we hope you have a very blessed Mother's Day... thanks for all you've done! In the spirit of Mother's day I just have to share one more story... while Gabriel and Michael were showing us the house, one of the foster parents friends came into the house. As we were walking to the backyard Gabriel looked up at her and said, "Hi, this is my mom." and pointed to me. I said hi and continued onto give him attention, meanwhile I was repeating what had just happened over and over in my mind. I think I can get use to this idea of being a mom.
Love,
Angie and Jarrett

Love,

We're Adopting!
We are happy, excited, thrilled (well, you get the point) to announce that we are adopting! Last Thursday, April 29, we received the phone call we've been hoping and praying for almost a year and a half.
As you may or may not know Jarrett and I have been longing to start a family for many years. In the fall of 2008 we decided to pursue adoption. After taking 12 weeks of classes and completing mountains of paper work, we became certified adoptive parents in January 2009. What followed was the long and very emotional road of waiting to be selected. There were times when we thought our dream of becoming a mom and dad would never happen. And then, just like that, it did.
As of this afternoon we are happy to announce that we are in the process of adopting Gabriel and Michael, our two little angels.
Gabriel is 4 and is a smart, healthy and helpful little boy. He is also a wonderful older brother. He enjoys reading, playing with trucks, going swimming and playing with his little brother.
Michael is an active and happy 3 year old little boy. He enjoys toys that makes noises and playing with balls. He also likes Spider Man and both boys are into action heroes (Jarrett couldn't be happier).

On top of how precious they are, we are so blessed as they are very healthy and smart little boys and their smiles will melt your heart. After hearing all about them this afternoon we had to pinch ourselves because they just seem perfect. Honestly, their foster mom said they like fruits and vegetables (including broccoli) and one of their favorite snacks are carrots.
There are many details to share with you about how this process will work. Perhaps the detail that we are acutely aware of is the fact that we don't have 9 months to prepare... actually only about 15 days.
We hope to use this blog as a way to share updates about our family and to record this new journey. We know we have a lot to learn and we'll probably (most definitely) make mistakes along the way, but we can't tell you how much we are looking forward to this. It has been a long time coming and we couldn't think of two more perfect children to have as our own.
I will post more about how the process will work (and hopefully pictures) in the next couple of days.
Until next time... may your angels always be with you.
