Today is such an important milestone for so many reasons. This point in my last pregnancy was the exact same day that my son came into this world and is a date I've worried about with this pregnancy since I first learned we are expecting again.
While I understand that these two pregnancies are completely different, I can help my mind from creating an association between Noah's pregnancy and this one. I guess its my lizard brain at work. And it something I've struggled with from the beginning. Every week that passed, I gave thanks that this baby was still growing and thriving inside me but also felt like I had walked that many steps closer to the cliff I felt coming at 24 weeks. All I knew, all my experience had told me was that at 23 weeks my water would break and at 24 weeks my very premature precious baby would be born. How could I not be terrified of this milestone?
Laurie, our truth finder in this grief, has worked (it really is work with me) to reframe my "story" and to help me focus on the truths that are in front of my face. Each time we'd meet, she'd ask me for the truth, and I'd recite to her that at X day and X minute, at so many weeks along, our baby was still inside me, my body was supporting the pregnancy and that it felt good. Literally that is how I've made it through the past 20 plus weeks. With reminder after reminder after reminder.
Jarrett likes to compare it to an analogy Coach Kirk Ferenz of the Iowa Hawkeyes said of their (undefeated) winning regular season... "we are just trying to stack up the weeks." Leave it to the husband to bring football into a pregnancy conversation. But the reality is, that is what we've been hoping to do. Jarrett says we are marching along day by day, just waiting for the weeks to stack up, while not focusing on how many weeks are in front of us, but just the path we are on today.
I've read several articles about women/couples who have had additional children following the loss of a previous child and there is one common thread. The joy of pregnancy is robbed from us. While that's a pretty blunt way of stating it, I can't help but agree, (mostly). My truth is that I am the most paranoid, symptom seeking, worried pregnant person in probably North America. I openly admit it. My doctors are very well aware but thankfully accept me for where and who I am. And while this pregnancy has been different than how it was with Noah, I can't yet let myself believe this pregnancy will no doubt have a happy ending. Isn't that sad?
My other truth is that I have already fallen in love with our baby girl. She is so active and provides me with many reminders throughout the day she is doing just fine. I love feeling her move inside and with all the ultrasounds I am able to identify exactly what body part she is moving as she kicks my sides, stands on my bladder or punches my stomach with her arms. Jarrett's been able to experience her movement too, from very early she's been a mover and a shaker... it might be partly due to the fact I can (and do) eat all the sweets I couldn't eat with Noah. He wasn't much for sugar.
Jarrett and I have always been very focused on the present, not allowing ourselves to get ahead of where we are currently, focusing on this moment, not what the future could bring. I guess that was a way of protecting ourselves from dreaming all the dreams we want to have, like we did with Noah, that we don't get to experience. Laurie, again, challenged us to think differently. She said, "I want you to picture what next Halloween is going to look like?" I didn't respond, I thought I'll let Jarrett take this one. But she wasn't about to let me get off that easy. She said, "Angie, what do you see when you think about next Halloween?" "Well," I hesitantly started, "I hope to see all of us out with the kids, this new baby included, walking around the neighborhood." She interrupted me, "Talk to me about specific details, and with confidence that this WILL be your future." As I spoke with what confidence I could muster up, the tears flowed stronger than my belief that it will be, but I went onto share with as many details as I could, with the joy I hope Halloween will bring in our family. After we each explained what our Halloween vision is, Laurie paused and asked, "How did that feel?"
Honestly, it was scary to think about, but at the same time felt nice. I've always been one to find something in the future to look forward to, so living these last 8 months with only looking at the moment in front of me has been different. Laurie went onto say, that in this journey of living life without our Noah in our arms, finding moments of peace and joy in our life is how she recommends living in our new reality. If that means there are days we can only look at the moment in front of us, than that's okay, but if that also means some days we can look at the future with hope of what it can bring, and it doesn't cause pain, well than that is okay too. As a mother herself that has lost so much, I completely trust Laurie's expertise and advice of how to regain the love of life again.
So here we are at 24 weeks, and my truth is, my baby girl is moving around inside with plenty of fluid to drink, my contractions stay at bay as long as I keep my activity level to the minimum, and the doctors are regularly checking me to make sure everything is okay. That is my truth today. So my "story" that all my babies are born at 24 weeks and 0 days has been proven to be false. Today baby girl is healthy, and safe right inside... exactly where I want her to stay for the next 15 or so weeks.
And speaking of my doctors, I have to say I've been very lucky to have two amazing doctors this time who are completely supportive, understanding and proactive in helping us achieve our goal. My current doctor, Dr. A. said from the beginning he would be willing and open to co-managing our pregnancy with a perinatologist. The perinatolgist we've been referred to Dr. E is one of the leading perinatologists in the United States and is very well respected. Friends we met from the hospital in the antepartum unit as well as the NICU speak very highly of Dr. E and so we feel fortunate to be with him as well as Dr. A. They have been extremely proactive with taking measures to make sure I do not go into premature labor. I've been having bi-weekly ultrasounds pretty much the entire pregnancy and starting at 17 weeks, I've had weekly ultrasounds. I'm currently on medication to control my contractions as well as having weekly progesterone injections from a nurse who comes to our house. The shots aren't too fun leaving an orange size welt and bruise at the injection site, but I'd take those shots many times a day if it means it will keep her inside. And accommodating with my high-need reassurance, Dr. A has told me to call him directly if I have any questions or concerns at anytime. I am extremely thankful for the care they have provided us.
So 24 weeks and counting we are. Just marching along giving thanks for each day we get, and praying for many more weeks/months with her inside.
And speaking of falling in love... here are some pictures of our precious little girl. Its so fun to see her weekly and to see how she's growing and changing.
She makes my heart feel love in a new way and while I will always feel the ache of losing Noah, this baby girl has given me a reason to take care of myself, to get up each morning and to keep on marching. She's given me a new purpose in life and the healing she's brought to Jarrett and I, and our family, will be something we always give thanks for.
To 24 weeks and marching... one moment at a time.
Until next time,
Angie

A future of hope...our rainbow baby.

Our family has kept a secret close to our heart. Its been a secret that has brought us great joy and a will to keep going. It is a secret little reminder, growing bigger everyday. While it does not take away the pain we feel in losing Noah, it gives us hope that there can be brighter days ahead.
Our secret is tiny, but mighty and helping to heal the wounds in our heart with every beat of her heart.
Our secret is we are expecting a rainbow baby...
in May 2016
We daily face fear and worry as we want more than anything to bring home our healthy baby. We hold onto our faith and put our trust in the one above.
For sometimes you have to get through your fears to see the beauty on the other side.
We've already smitten and we share our lovely news with you today.
Please help us pray that our daughter stays comfy inside, where she will grow and thrive and join us at full term.
Until next time,
Angie, Jarrett, and family

Messages from our angel...
Our
precious angel… you will always be the answer to our greatest prayer.
You blessed us in ways you’ll never know, and while our heart aches with your
absence, we still feel your presence…
and know we must find a way to still find joy in this life.
You let us know from the beginning Noah, that while you are no longer in our arms, you are okay and in a wonderful place. Thank you for the beautiful signs you sent...
The quilt that hung in the room where we gathered with Noah in our final moments.
The four little angels given to me by a stranger at a restaurant following Noah's funeral. For the full story please visit here
So
many times you’ve made your presence known.
So many times you’ve shown us you
have never left.
So
many rainbows, so many ways to say… please don’t cry.
(In the weeks following Noah's death, we received a precious gift in the form of a book from a friend. The book is called, "Mommy, Please Don't Cry... there are no tears in Heaven." As I read the book, I felt like Noah was writing directly to me. Here is what I heard him say....)
There are no tears in Heaven. Please don’t cry a beautiful angel carried me
here. The first thing I saw when I opened my little eyes was Jesus, thank you
Mommy and Daddy for that gift. When I
met Jesus, he cradled me in his arms.
Please don’t cry, Heaven is wonderful.
I have lots of friends, we run and play, we giggle and laugh. Please don’t cry, there are no tears in
Heaven. I met the man you named me
after, Mommy and Daddy, he told me about his big boat, all the animals and the
very first rainbow. Mommy and Daddy,
I’ve tried to send you many rainbows so you know I’m happy here. I miss you all, but please don’t cry. I’ll
wait right here for you, until the day we can be together again. I want you to be happy, I want you to love
life again. Don’t be sad for me, for I
am always with you.
Love, Noah
And so, we try to rebuild a life.
With our family here and our angel above, we remember...
We put our faith and trust in God's hands
Our story continues...
Until next time,
Angie

Bringing me back to life...
In the 7 months it has been since we have said goodbye to Noah, I've found myself in those early days searching for a desire to keep going in this life. It wasn't supposed to be like this, why did he have to leave us? I kept asking myself the same questions over and over and over, and each time the unanswerable questions left me feeling only more despair.
Time heals, I was told. Even Jarrett would remind me that each day after June 25 was going to get easier to live through. At the time I wasn't sure if he was trying to convince me of that hope or if it was to convince both of us to keep going. There were many days I didn't believe him, wanted to push his optimism into the pile or crud that I felt I was dragging around behind me. But persistent he was, (thank Goodness) as he continued to be the rock he has always been, since day 1 more than 20 (yes 20) some years ago, when our journey together began.
Looking back now, 7 months after the worst day of my life, I'm starting to feel like I'm coming back to life. Am I the same person I was before this experience, NO, but really, is anyone the same after we've lived through today? The truth (how we seek to live our life thanks to the help of a wonderful grief counselor) is, every experience we have changes us, it shapes us and molds us into the person we are at this exact moment.
While I'd like to say I'm better off for living through the birth and loss of my precious son, I don't know if that is the truth. What I do believe to be the truth is this... I view life differently and the things I feared before in my life I do not fear anymore. I am more aware of the life going on around me, of the simple beauty in life than I ever was before... I search the sky daily for signs for reminders of the little life that I feel was cut too short. Some days I see those reminders and other days I do not, but in those days I tell myself Noah didn't need to remind me he's near, I feel him still in my heart. Another truth of the life I lead now is that I have been so blessed. In. So. MANY. Ways!!!!! From simply the best families, to friends that I ask myself how I deserve, to the kindness from strangers who share love with us, many simply because of our little boy. We have been wrapped in the loving arms of so many and it was because of that we survived those terribly dark and difficult months.
While I know I will always miss my precious Noah, and wonder what life like would have been, I thank him for giving me a reason to always look forward to what comes after this life. I believe that some day we will be reunited again, in Heaven, as he waits for us to join him there. While I long to see him again, I find myself seeking simple joys, glimpses of hope in this life here, that makes me want to stay for a very long while. Even six months ago, I could not have said the same thing... it was not the truth.
So here I am, on January 27, 2016 feeling myself being brought back to life. There are many reasons for this. I have an amazing partner in this life, who refused to give up on the sadness, despair and hopelessness I let overtake myself. A partner who reminded me everyday he was there for me, would carry me through and do what ever he had to "bring me back to life". I have three beautiful, very healthy (another word would be spunky, sassy or wild) children who bring me back to the daily grinds of life and have shown me that life has to go on... literally who else would be able to help them find their shoes or their library book? We have a family that has been there for us in so many ways, I can't begin to recount all the ways in which they have stood by us. And friends.... thank God for each of you.
As as much as those great blessings above have saved me, so has the promise of what the future holds. I live very much in the moment now, in the actual minute this life has given me. That is perhaps the biggest change I've seen in myself. And as much as I try to not let myself get into the business of controlling the future (see I have no ability to control the future), I still long for and anticipate good things ahead.
As I start remembering what it feels like to look forward to tomorrow with hope and anticipation, I am forever different. I will forever bear the scars created by the loss of my son, I will never "forget", "get over", or "move on" from the devastation losing him caused. But what I have learned is that I can find joy in life again. I can find hope in the promise of tomorrow. And I can find peace in living with the truth that good things have happened in this moment, can happen in the future and my happiness is okay.
That is the truth I feel today. I'm coming back to life... one day, one hour, one moment at a time.
Until next time,

Winter Wonderland...
Last weekend, Dad and the boys headed up north to play in the snow with some great friends.
With the boys having spent the holidays in Iowa, we were eager to have them back and to spend time together.
While Isabelle and I stayed back with Grandma and played, we got to see some of the great pictures that captured the fun the boys had.
Thanks to Brendan, Stefanie, Justin and Matthew for the wonderful fun!
Until next time,

Seven Months
Happy 7th month Noah.
You are so greatly missed. While I will forever cherish our first picture together, I so wish today there was a picture of me holding you on your 7th months in this world. Instead I only dream of what you would be doing, how big you would have gotten and how much love you would continue to be adding to our daily lives.
I'll miss you forever.
Love,
Mom

2015 a year in review...
As you know 2015 was a year filled with the greatest of blessings and the biggest of heartaches, and yet as I reflect back upon the last 364 days, I can't help but think that the blessings were bountiful.
So I take some time today to reflect back on the past 12 months, of all they brought us and the reminders of so many good I've been blessed to have in my, in our lives.
Just a couple of weeks into the new year Mom ran her first half marathon since becoming a mom. What a nice reminder that my love of running didn't have to go away after becoming a mom. I was very thankful for the support of my family cheering me on.
We also moved Isabelle out of her crib and into a big bed. She loved her crib so we never even thought about moving her until Nana and Papa shared one of their twin beds with us. Seeing her in her big bed and how much she loved it even more than the crib, made me soon realize our baby had grown into such a big girl.
We also celebrated Isabelle turning 3 and of course she insisted on having Frozen cupcakes.
Oh and speaking of babies, February also brought us the biggest surprise of our lives...

What a year 2015 was. So many blessings, so many good times.
So I take some time today to reflect back on the past 12 months, of all they brought us and the reminders of so many good I've been blessed to have in my, in our lives.
January
After spending the holidays in Iowa for Christmas we returned back to the desert just in time for the boys to begin their first experience at flag football. They loved it and look forward to playing again in the future.Just a couple of weeks into the new year Mom ran her first half marathon since becoming a mom. What a nice reminder that my love of running didn't have to go away after becoming a mom. I was very thankful for the support of my family cheering me on.
The big highlight in the month of January was getting to go to Disneyland as a family for the first time. Nana and Papa went along and it was a trip we will always remember. So much fun, so many smiles and memories to last forever...
Waiting to meet Anna and Elsa
February
Gabriel prepared for his big presentation at school, dressing up as President Bill Clinton.
Looking at him with silver hair makes me feel like I'm looking into the future. We also celebrated Isabelle turning 3 and of course she insisted on having Frozen cupcakes.
Hard to believe our baby grew up so quickly.
We were expecting a baby...
March
Papa and Dad started building a castle for the boys (both big and small) to play with.
Isabelle, being her silly old self insisted on eating cereal with her baby dolls bowl and spoon. It was the 30 minute breakfast... only because 3 rice krispies would fit on a spoon each time.
Oh and baseball season was in full swing...
April
Easter blessings!
We shared the news with the kids and it wasn't long before everyone and anyone knew our news... Three pretty excited kiddos that they were going to have a baby sibling.
And a couple complications gave us another chance to see our precious miracle. What a pretty side profile...
May
Brought Mom's trip back to Iowa for Uncle Jonas and Kacee's wedding, as well as MaeLyn's bridal shower and a surprise baby shower for us. At the shower we also did a cupcake gender reveal to share the news, we were having a...
BOY!
Mom loved getting the opportunity to meet her new niece Willa and to play with nephew Mason.
Meanwhile back at home, Queen Elsa (aka Isabelle) helped with chores...
Enjoyed playdates with her friend Frankie...
And enjoyed being treated like the queen she fully believes she is.
June
The month of June was whirlwind for many reasons, but a month I'll forever replay and relive over and over in my mind. The month of June brought the unexpected news that our son was going to join us earlier than we ever planned.
My water broke early on the morning of June 8th at 23 weeks pregnant. Thankfully we stayed in the hospital for a week before our third son, Noah James Haskovec entered into this world.
Our last ultrasound pictures before his debut. To say he was squished inside was an understatement. Yes those are his arms and his legs crunched up infront of his face.
The first picture we got to take of Noah after he was born.
Mom's first trip to the NICU to see her son. Noah was just an hour old here.
As Dad and I stood at the top of his bed, Noah raised his hand up above his head as if to say, "Mommy and Daddy, I see you... want to hold my hand?"
At this time, we didn't think we could touch him, it would be the following day when we got to touch his beautiful hand for the first time.
Such tiny toes...
and long beautiful fingers...
every single ounce of Noah we love and cherished. While God had a different plan than what we wanted, he allowed us to spend 12 wonderful days with our miracle baby.
Before we had to say goodbye..
Our greatest joy and biggest heartache all in one short month.
July
The days after Noah's passing were quite the blur as I tried my best just to get out of bed each day. Thankfully family stayed around for some time after and we went through the routine of trying to find a new way of living. We went to As You Wish Pottery and chose a piece to paint in Noah's memory...
The cousins enjoyed playing together.
Gabriel finished playing on the All Star baseball team
And the kids did their best to play as kids do. Being kind to one another and trying to find a way to make their mom smile again.
The boys also participated in swim team...
And Mom and Dad decided to take a vacation away, just the two of us. It was the first time we had ever taken a vacation, without the kids.
My every thought always seemed to drift back to my baby, that I'd never get to hold in my arms again.
But we did our best to smile and enjoy the moments we still had..
We went sailing...
And watched for signs of rainbows from our littlest angel.
August
We tried to rebuild moments of family happiness as we together mourned our brother and son no longer with us.
We rejoiced in the reminders from Heaven that Noah will always be with us, in a different way than how we dreamed.
Dad and Mom celebrated 12 years of wedding bliss and were reminded just how strong we are together... for we had just lived through the worst experience and come through together stronger and more in love than ever.
We gave thanks for visitors who came to offer support and love and to remind us that we can smile in the midst of so much sadness.
And even if we weren't ready to say goodbye to summer, it was time for school to start once again.
First day of school... Isabelle wasn't too thrilled with the idea of going back to school!
September
Family moments...
We celebrated Dad being honored at the 40 under 40 awards...
And the big event for the month of September that we all celebrated at was the wedding of MaeLyn and Aaron...
Pretty great looking kids if I do say so myself...
So fun to celebrate MaeLyn & Aaron
While you can't see it here, we took this picture with the rainbow that appeared on a beautifully sunny day. It made me so happy to feel Noah close to us on such a special day.

I love this picture of Isabelle.
And while it is hard to tell, the boys didn't have any fun. Nope, no fun at all.
October
October brought the month we expected Noah to arrive, and to honor him we instead participated in Noah's Kindness Project. We were so deeply touched by the outpouring of support we received from so many who performed acts of kindness in honor of our son. It was a day that brought so much goodness into the world but also healed us in ways we never expected. We are so grateful for the support from so many.
From a very successful food drive...
to the mountains of diapers collected from the boys' school in honor of Noah...
From our reactions you can see... we were simply blown away!
To the love and unwavering support from our parents. We shared rainbows of kindness with others...
and smiled as a family with genuine happiness...
We raced in honor of Noah to help prevent child and human trafficking...
So thankful for family and friends who joined us that day to make it so special.
And we took gifts back to our friends in the NICU for other families.
Such a meaningful day... a healing day, that reminded us of so much love and kindness we have been given this year... all because of our littlest angel.
Dad and Mom enjoyed seeing Garth Brooks in concert.
And we celebrated Halloween, with a Ninja, a Ghostbuster and Minnie Mouse.
November
We relished in the signs sent from Heaven from Noah.
And we prepared for the holidays with anticipation and wonder...
Celebrating at Zoo Lights, a tradition we've had for the last several years.
And while we will now always feel a member of our family is missing, we still capture the memories of being a family... a family separated by two worlds, but with love in our hearts that will never be distanced.
December
While our hearts are heavy in not celebrating this Christmas with Noah, we still found many reasons to smile. Grandma and Grandpa came to visit for a few days... and made Xmas cookies
Isabelle and Grandpa bonded over some zzzzzzz's.
Thanks to Nana and Papa, our house was decorated as it has been in years past.
With even a new Christmas tree.... its obvious who its for.
And we celebrated the reason for the season. We give thanks to God for all the gifts we've been given this year...
Sunset on Christmas... outside of Noah's final resting place.
With a handmade angel of love to watch over him.
We will always love, always miss, and always cherish the times we had.
What a year 2015 was. So many blessings, so many good times.
So much to be thankful for, because of so many of you.
As we anticipate 2016, we pray for abundant blessings, for the health of all and for true happiness.
Until next time,
Angie
