Its been crazy how many videos I've seen of people dumping ice water on their heads. From celebrities, to friends, and now it is my turn.
What I find most exciting about this challenge is the amount of money the ALS has raised as a result of the Ice Bucket Challenge. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching people's reactions as the freezing cold water hits their heads as much as the next person, but what I think is so impressive is the amazing amount of money that has been generated for good, all because of this silly craze. According to Time.com as of July 29 there was over 5.5 million dollars raised for ALS research compared to just $32,000 the year previously. And that was before the idea really went viral. That my friends, is impressive.
While I'm ever so thankful I haven't had a family member face the difficulties of ALS, I understand just how important money for research is and so for that reason, I gladly accept the challenge and donate to help find a cure.
I told the boys about it last night when I first learned of the challenge. They could hardly wait to dump the freezing cold, ice saturated, water on me. Its almost as if they were going to enjoy torturing their mother.
Tonight we waited for Dad to come home from work and then the boys helped me fill up the water, put as much ice in it as we had in the house and then we headed outside for the big dump.
While its kind of dark and hard to hear me over the whine of my lovely daughter Isabelle, I excitedly share that I've officially joined the ice bucket challenge sweeping the nation....
I've gladly donated to ALS! Renee Voves, I accept your challenge and I nominate Megan Abbas, Aaron Heying and Nolan Haskovec! You have 24 hours!
Angie
